Chicago Med really went for it in the season 8 premiere. The medical drama not only gave us the return of a beloved character, but the exit of three additional characters and the death of another. Suffice to say, there was enough going on to fill a handful of episodes, so we’re here to talk about it and determine what the heck happened.
Be warned that we will be getting deep into spoilers in the rest of the post, so stop reading now if you haven’t yet seen the episode and want to experience the reveals in real time. If not, then let’s get into it.
Is Dylan Scott leaving Chicago Med?
The episode’s major death has to do with the cliffhanger ending that saw Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and Dr. Dylan Scott (Guy Lockard) trapped in a burning building. They were there because Scott was trying to protect Milena “Jo” Jovanovic (Riley Voelkel), an undercover officer who got in deep with the Serbian mafia.
Jo’s safety was compromised after she was hit by a car, and Dylan, being a former cop, took it upon himself to make sure she made it out in one piece. Sadly, fate intervened. While Jo makes it out of the building fire, she suffers a gunshot wound to the stomach and dies shortly afterwards as a result.

Dylan is gutted by Jo’s death, largely because the bullet that killed her was his doing. He shot a gun at their assailant, and the bullet somehow passed through him and struck Jo. Dylan is so affected by this turn of events that he decides to step down from his job at Gaffney.
He tells Dr. Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) that he “killed” the woman he loves, and was never able to fully make the transition from police uniform to hospital scrubs. It’s a devastating reveal, especially given how liked Scott has been as a character.
Variety has confirmed that Scott’s arc on Med is completed, and Lockard will not be present for the rest of season 8. A tragic ending, for sure.
