Finrod Felagund, Galadriel Brother and His Story Gets Air Time On Ring Of Power

Finrod Felagund is the eldest son of Finarfin and Earwen. He is the brother of Galadriel, Angrod, and Aegnor.

As the new series Lords Of Rings: The Rings of Power released the first three episodes, fans were introduced to a character named Finrod Felagund. His story will be featured as a prologue before the series’ plot starts.

Finrod Felagund Family Tree

Finrod Felagund was an Oldorin elf who was born in Aman. He was a friend to men and one of the most honorable Elves in the House of Finarfin. His appearance in the Lords of The Rings: The Power of Rings has attracted the public’s attention. Thus, here are the details about his family.

Finrod Felagund Parents

Finrod Felagund was born to Finarfin and Earwen. Finarfin was a Noldorin elf of Valinor who was well-known as the fairest and most intelligent.

He was the third son and youngest child of Finw and his second wife, Indis of the Vanyar. The “Noldorin High-prince Fanor,” the son of Finw and his first wife Mriel, was his older half-brother.

Likewise, his elder siblings were Findis, Fingolfin, and Irime. He built a relationship with Thingol, King of Doriath, Olwe’s brother, in YT 1280 by marrying Eärwen, the daughter of Olwe, King of the Teleri.

Later, he established his own royal house, just like all of Finw’s sons. His house was frequently referred to as “The Golden House of Finarfin” because, unlike any other Noldor, he and his successors inherited golden hair from his Vanyarin mother, Indis.

Likewise, Finrod’s mother, Earwen, was the daughter of Olwe. She was born during the Years of the Trees, probably in Tol Eressea, Alqualonde, Middle-earth, or the Elven realms of the Far West. She was said to be friends with Anair, the wife of Fingolfin.

She had four children with Finarfin: Finrod, Galadriel, Angrod, and Aegnor. She is said to be the mother of Ordodreth too, but later in Tolkien’s note, he was mentioned as the son of Angrod, which made him the grandson of Earwen.

Finrod Felagund Is A Brother Of Galadriel

Finrod Felagund had the youngest sister named Galadriel. She was referred to as Lady of the woods of Lothlórien. She ruled the forest with her husband, Celeborn.

She was considered one of the greatest Elves in all of Middle-earth. She was superior to almost all others in terms of beauty, wisdom, and strength.

She also wielded one of the three Elven power rings, Nenya. Thus, she was regarded by J.R.R. Tolkien as one of the most potent and beautiful Elves still living in Middle-earth in the Third Age.

She had lived nominally with Finrod when she was in Beleriand. However, when she went to Thingol, she spent much of her time in court. There she met her husband, Celeborn, a kinsman of Thingol, in Doriath. She also visited her brother, Finrod, multiple times in his realm, Nargothrond.

Details About Other Siblings Of Finrod Felagund

Finrod Felagund had three other siblings named Angrod, Aegnor, and Ordodreth. However, Ordodreth was later named as the son of Angrod in Tolkien’s note. So with the new relationship, Finrod would be an uncle of Ordodreth.

Angrod was the second son of Finarfin and Earwen. He was married to a Noldorin woman named Eldalot and had a son named Orodreth.

He held the northern slopes of the Dorthonion mountains against Morgoth alongside Aegnor. However, both of them were killed in the Dagor Bragollach.

Aegnor, on the other hand, was the youngest among the three sons of Finarfin. He never married, but he was in love with Andreth, the Bórian wise Lady. She also reciprocated his feelings.

They used to talk about Men, Elves, and their respective world destinies. But unfortunately, when their love was budding, it was a time of war. As a result, he did not express his intentions for her enough.

And he was killed along with his brother Angrod when Morgoth broke the Siege at the beginning of Dagor Bragollach in FA 455.

Finrod Felagund Story In Lords Of Ring

Finrod Felagund’s story in the Lords Of Rings shows that he dies when saving Beren. His death makes Galadriel search for the remanence of an evil shadow. In the original, Finrod built the first Minas Tirith.

After discovering the network of caves beneath the Taur-en-Faroth, he began to construct the city of Nargothrond and later established his empire there with the aid of the Blue Mountains Dwarves. The Dwarves received many treasures from Valinor as a reward from Finrod.

He was also the first of the ‘Noldor to encounter Men while hunting in the plains of Thargelion in East Beleriand. He spent a lot of time with them, teaching them Sindarin and learning their language.

Barahir of the House of Bor saved his life at Dagor Bragollach. And out of kindness, Finrod gave him his ring. The ring was later known as the Ring of Barahir.

Years after the Dagor Bragollach, when Barahir’s son Beren sought assistance from Nargothrond, Finrod accompanied him on the Quest for the Silmaril to pay back his debt and cede his throne. At that time, he kills wolves with bare hands but gets mortal wounds and dies from it.

The story of his death would be portrayed as a prologue for the rest of the series of Lords of rings.

Does Finrod Felagund Reincarnates In Valinor?

Finrod Felagund was the first Elf to be reincarnated in the Valinor. It is also called an Undying Land. Before the end of the First Age, he returned to life because of his noble qualities, role in saving Beren’s life, and opposition to the Oath of Fanor.

Valinor is located far to the west of Middle-earth, where the Valar, an extinct race of creatures that the men of Middle-earth believed to be gods, reside. Eldamar, the home of the Elves, was also located on the vast continent, as per Radio Times.

The Valar welcomed the first Elves to live in Valinor because they thought they were valuable and worthy to be protected from the evil of Middle-earth.
