A video of a cat with a half black and half ginger face has gone viral on TikTok, with more than 15.5 million views.
The footage was shared to the app by an account called Venus Two Face Cat, which is dedicated to the unusual-looking feline, has more than 2.3 million followers.
The clip begins with the Venus walking towards the camera, and we can see that one side of her face is covered in black fur, and she has a green eye, and the other half is ginger with a bright blue eye.
Even more unusual, the colorway is split by what appears to be a neat line down the center of the pet’s face.
Venus’s body is then dappled black and ginger, giving the cat a wholly striking appearance.
Text overlaying the clip of the cat reads: “When I see “that’s sooooo photoshopped on my IG [Instagram] pics.”
The video, which can be watched here, then cuts to a selection of the pet’s “baby pics” from 2009, which show the animal has always had the distinct markings.
The viral footage is captioned: “The #twofacecat #notphotoshop #bornthisway #heterochromia #catsoftiktok #tiktokcats #petsoftiktok #nocap.”
Since it was posted online on July 7, the clip has been liked more than 3.1 million times.
Many people have rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts on Venus’s unique look.
One TikTok user, I [heart] dogs, wrote: “In 2021 people are thinking that is photoshopped?!”
Another person, JohnnyJoestarSTB7, added: “Dude why does the cat look so baddass?”
Nesyilol typed: “Gods creations are beautiful.”
Sally Pollard gushed: “So beautiful. And perfect.”
But why does Venus look like this? Well, according to National Geographic, who looked into Venus’ appearance back when she found fame on Facebook and YouTube in 2012, many people thought the animal was a chimera.
A chimera is an animal that has cells which contain two types of DNA and this happens when two embryos fuse together.
According to cat genetics specialist Professor Leslie Lyons, from the University of California, this is actually quite common and the case for most male tortoiseshell cats
Adversely, Venus is “extremely, extremely rare” and her look could actually be down to “absolute luck.”
However, the academic predicted the black coloration was randomly activated on one side of Venus’s face and the same for the orange color on the other side and the two patches met in the middle as the animal developed.
Venus also has different eye colors due to having heterochromia, which is a relatively rare condition which is caused by melanin not being distributed to one eye, leaving it blue.
According to animal charity Cats Protection: “Luckily, heterochromia doesn’t have any impact on a cat’s ability to see, and it doesn’t seem to affect their hearing either.”
